THE SNAIL PESTS ATTACKED YOUNG PADDY

This is English in News accompany with you again in 2009. I'll have the news in detail. Hundreds of hectares of paddy fields in Klari district of Krawang regency West Java have been damaged by snail pests. The paddy damage in inflicts dozens of million rupiah of financial loss to local farmers.

The snail pests attacked newly planted paddy particularly in fields which have plenty of water. As the attacked young paddy stems can not grow properly. Farmers have to replant them which costs them dozens of million rupiah in total. The farmers confirmed their difficulties to cope with the snail pests.

As during the daytime the snails commonly hide in the water. Available pesticides are considered to be ineffective to erradicate the pests which seem to be immune to such chemical substances. The local farmers expressed hope for government's assistance in the efforts to handle the snail pests and to avoid its spread to a wider coverage area.
