BRUCELOSSIS A COW OF AUSTRALIAN ORIGIN

The class-1 quarantine house of Bandar Lampung recently exterminated a cow of Australian origin which had been positively diagnosed with Brucelossis disease. The extermination was conducted to avoid the spread of the disease to other animals and to avoid any negative effect on humans.

The cow- Abrahman Cross species was imported by PT Santosa Agrindo it was diagnosed with the animal's immune system. The disease is also known to cause miscarriage in pregnant women consuming products of the affected animal. The affected cow which weighed five hundred and eighty (580) kilogram was slain and burnt at the Metro Lampung cattle slaughter house.

Head of the quarantine house Hermansyah noted that the extermination was conducted following the results of laboratory examinations. The Brucelossis disease is known to be contagious and primarily affects goats, cows, horses and pigs. So far there is no effective medical treatment known for the disease.
