CHILE - DAKKAR AND USA NHL-HOCKEY

Chilean drivers who will take part in the 2009 Dakar rally showed their vehicles to an admiring public in Santiago. Race director Etienne Lavigne cancelled the 2008 race in Nort Africa at the last minute after French intellegence sources alerted organisers to a possible Al Qaeda attack.

This year the organisers moved the race out of Africa for the first time in its 30-year history, to Chile and Argentina. The race begins in Buenos Aires on January 3 and after crossing The Andes into Chile and back again on a 5,680 kilometre route, the first drivers home should arrive back in the Argentine Capital on January 17.

Meanwhile Michael Ryder scored the game winning goal late in the third period to help lead The Boston Bruins to A 4-2 win over The Carolina Hurricanes night at EBC center in raleigh, Nort Carolina. Blake wheeler netted two second period goals while March Savard and Dennis Wideman each tallied two assist for the Bruins. Chuck Kobasew sealed the win with his first goal in eleven games an empty netter with just 0:15 seconds remaining.

Goalie tim Thomas made 29 saves on 31 hurricanes shots to get credit tor the win, the seventh in a row for Eastern conference leading Boston which hasn't lost since December 10 against The Washington Capitals. Matt Cullen and anton Babchuck notched goals for the hurricanes, who were playing their second game in a row after last night's 5-4 win over The Florida Oanthers. Netminder cam ward allowed three goals on just 21 Boston shots to take the loss.
