THE CHANGE OF OFFICE HOURS IN JAKARTA

Due to the heavy traffict which has been a real problem for people in Jakarta, The Goverment is already enforcing a regulation for the students to starts school at six.thirty a.m. From the previous schedule of seven a.m now there are to be new office starting hours and these are currently slowly being introduced.

It is believed that the change of office hours in both private companies and government offices will help ease the heavy traffic in Jakarta. Based on a survey the peak traffic jams in Jakarta are at nine the morning. To reduce the traffic jams a regulation has been issued regarding the start of office hours. The regulation is currently being made public areas in central and North Jakarta will start their working hours at seven thirty in the morning.

Areas in Easth and West Jakarta at eight in the morning while areas in South Jakarta will start at nine in the morning. Some of the civil servants in The Gajah Mada central Jakarta area have agreed to the change of the office hours from eight to seven thirty a.m. Meanwhile some of the civil servants in the state court trade and human rights office said that they are dealing with trials that does not recognize time.

They sometimes goes to court in the morning,in the afternoon and dometimes at night if it is required. Private companies are also scheduled to go to work at the assigned hours.

PRICES OF DAILY NECESSITIES REMAIN STABLE

Prices of daily necessities remain stable during the last few days before the new year's eve while stocks are confirmed to be sufficient for the first few weeks of the year 2009. Until this year-end the decrease in fuel prices has not lead to significant decreases in the prices of daily necessities.

In central Jakarta's Bendungan Hilir traditional market chicken eggs are priced at thirteen thousand and five hundred (13,500) rupiah per kilogram. A one thousand (1,000) rupiah increase from the price in the past few weeks. Price of duck eggs shows a slight increase of one hundred (100)rupiah per kilogram. The 1-R-1 and 1-R-2 types of rice are currently sold at six thousand (6,000)rupiah and five thousand five hundred (5,500) rupiah per kilogram respectively.

Vendors noted that the increase in the prices of rice are mainly caused by the lack of supply due to low harvest yields. In spite of this the stock of rice and other daily necessities are deemed sufficient to meet demands for the first few weeks of the year 2009.
